Tomás Balmaceda completed his undergraduate studies in Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and received his Ph.D. in 2012. He is a Researcher at the Institute for Philosophical Research (SADAF/CONICET) and a full-time Interim Advanced-Level Chair Professor at the University of San Andrés. He has also taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Buenos Aires, UCES, and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

For over a decade, his work focused on philosophy of mind, particularly on Folk Psychology and the challenges involved in understanding how we attribute mental states to one another. His main contributions in this field are presented in his book Psicología de Sentido Común: pasado, presente y futuros (Editorial Título, 2014), as well as in Temas de filosofía de la mente: atribución psicológica (SADAF, 2018) and La segunda persona y las emociones (SADAF, 2017).

His current research explores post-cognitivist approaches, with an emphasis on embodied theories and the extended mind hypothesis, together with a growing line of work on the intersection between philosophy, technology, and machine learning. His interests include the conceptual and ethical dimensions of intelligent systems in social and cultural contexts.

Together with Karina Pedace, he co-founded GIFT, the Group for Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy and Technology, dedicated to the critical study of the philosophical, ethical, and social dimensions of intelligent technologies.
